My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the number one highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time. Of. All. Time. Just think about that. No big rollout, no A-listers with crazy chemistry, no high-concept premise. Just the true story of how screenwriter Nia Vardalos, playing a version of herself, met her husband.
I dunno, maybe we should just give every 40-year-old woman with a screenplay idea a chunk of money and see what happens!
The third installment in the MBFGW franchise is currently in theaters, and finds the Portokalos family going to Greece to, I assume, meet up with the Mamma Mia family. And because of my cool job, I got to talk to Vardalos about, well, a whole bunch of stuff.
Here’s a link to our interview.
There’s a bunch of stuff that didn’t make it into the final draft, mostly us commiserating about the strike, and you know what!!!! Nia’s fuckin cool.
